Just after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police say the accused attempted to enter 53 Division — located on Eglinton Ave. W. at Duplex Ave. — but found the main doors locked as all police buildings are closed to the public due to the pandemic .

The suspect then allegedly approached an officer sitting in a nearby patrol car, falsely claimed he was wanted by police and wished to turn himself in.

He also told the officer he was armed, and was promptly detained.

During a search, police allegedly found a starter’s pistol, several knives, matches, a lighter, and a molotov cocktail.

Edward Zilberman, 20, faces a number of weapons and mischief charges, and is due to appear in court in February.

The investigation remains open, and anybody with information should call Toronto police or Crime Stoppers.
