Man arrested after Christmas donations stolen in Aurora

The items were taken from a bin at a fire station, police say

York Regional Police have arrested a man after several Christmas donation thefts in Aurora.

On Dec. 8, officers were called to the area of Edward St. and Englehard Dr. after donations went missing from a bin located at York Central Fire Station.

According to police, video surveillance showed that between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Dec. 8, a man removed several donations that were intended to support community members at Christmas.

Allan Gilpin, 45, of Aurora, was identified as the suspect and arrested at his home on Dec. 22. He is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.

Gilpin is to appear in Newmarket court on Jan. 25, 2022.
