Notes left on vehicles not criminal, police say
A Florida resident has a warning for people from New York.
“If you are one of those ‘woke’ people — leave Florida. You will be happier elsewhere as will we.”
That notice — in all capital letters — was left on vehicles with New York state licence plates in Palm Beach over the weekend.
Some who received the note were concerned about its content and contacted the Palm Beach Police Department. But after a brief investigation, authorities determined no crime had been committed .
“Residents were concerned about the lack of civility and respect for personal property. We understood that concern and that’s why we started to look into the matter but we determined … it was non-criminal in nature,” Capt. William Rothrock, the department’s public information officer, told the Palm Beach Post .
“As uncivil as it may be and not characteristic of our community, it is not a crime.”
Former U.S. President Donald Trump made Mar-a-Lago, which is in Palm Beach, his new main residence in 2019. In a Fox News interview last year, he said “that being woke means you are a loser.”
Rothrock said the majority of vehicles which received the message were from out of state, mainly New York.
