York Regional Police constable faces theft charge

York Regional Police have charged one of their own after an internal investigation into stolen money.

An officer went to a call in the Town of Georgina on Nov. 11 regarding a found cell phone and money, according to CTV News.

The officer picked up the property to return to the owner, but the owner claimed that only a portion of was returned, said police.

Const. David Runge, 42, of Lindsay, faces charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

Runge has been a member of York Region’s force since 2004.
