A 70-year-old man was fatally shot while Toronto Police executed a search warrant near Port Dover, some 131 kilometres west of Toronto in Norfolk County, according to Ontario’s police watchdog.
The Special Investigations Unit is now probing the circumstances of the shooting at a residence in the Hwy. 6-Hwy. 24 area at around noon on Wednesday.
Officers were executing a search warrant when shots were fired, the SIU said.
Toronto Police tweeted on Wednesday that one of their officers discharged a firearm and one person was struck and taken to hospitalized.
The SIU is called in whenever police are involved in a death, serious injury, sexual assault allegations, or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
