DEADLY NIGHT: Two men gunned down in separate shootings in the city

The 68th and 69th killings of the year put Toronto on pace for about 85 homicides this year, which would be the second highest number of murders since 2007

Two men were killed in separate overnight shootings as gun violence continues unabated in the city.

Toronto Police say the first man was found dead at Jane St. and Yorkwoods Gt. – south of Finch Ave. W. – around 12:30 a.m.

Officers responded to reports of a man on the ground “unconscious” and “not breathing,” police tweeted Saturday.

Police say officers “commenced lifesaving measures man” but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found “evidence of gunfire” nearby, police say.

The man’s name was not immediately released but he is the city’s 68 th murder victim of the year.

Two hours after that man, believed to be in his 20s, was killed, another man was gunned down at an apartment on Eglinton Ave. W., just east of Keele St.

“Police arrived on scene and located a 36-year-old man in an apartment unit who had been shot,” Const. Laura Brabant said in a statement released Saturday.

She said officers commenced lifesaving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators are appealing to anyone that witnessed the shooting, or were in the area at the time and have video surveillance or dash cam footage to contact them,” Brabant said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, is the city’s 69 th murder victim of the year.

Of the 69 slayings so far this year, 36 were killed by guns and 13 were stabbed to death.

With 10 weeks remaining in 2021, Toronto is on pace for about 85 homicides this year, which would be the second highest number of murders since 2007.
