Toronto speed cameras nab over 36,000 speeders in July and August

That’s a lot of speeding.

The city’s 50 automated speed enforcement (ASE) devices issued 36,733 tickets in July and August 2021 in Toronto.

A total of 18,619 tickets were issued in July, with 18,114 mailed to leadfoot drivers in August — the second and third months of enforcement in this the third round of the speed enforcement program.

The camera located on Victoria Park Ave. near Tiago Ave. was the most active in July, issuing 2,645 tickets in July, or 14% of that month’s total.

That month also saw 1,211 repeat offenders, with the worst offender receiving nine tickets from the same camera located on Gilder Dr., east of Midland Ave. in Scarborough.

August’s most active camera was the one on Greenwood Ave. south of Glebeholme Blvd., handing out 2,673 tickets, of 15% of the month’s total citations.

August saw only 764 repeat offenders, with one driver receiving nine tickets from the same camera, located near George R. Gauld Junior School on Algoma St. near Royal York Rd. in Etobicoke.

The cameras are set to rotate to their fourth round of locations next month.
