Hamilton Police say the suspect, Antoine Chambers, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Hasnain (Nano) Ali, as well as attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault in relation to this incident.

Chambers is also charged with numerous firearms-related charges as a firearm was allegedly recovered by police.

Officers were called to a Mount Hope residence for reports of a shooting shortly before 3 p.m. on Sept. 16.

When they arrived, cops found two brothers in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but Ali later succumbed to his injuries.

Their father, Faqir Ali, 63, was forcibly taken from the home in a dark SUV and violently assaulted before he was found near Beach Blvd. along the Hamilton lakeshore.

Det.-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk told reporters Friday that the accused was arrested after cops located the suspected getaway vehicle.

“We had grounds to arrest him at that point in time but we wanted to continue with the investigation,” Bereziuk said, explaining the suspect vehicle was also seized by police.

“That vehicle has been forensically examined and searched,” he said. “I won’t get into the details of what the evidence was that was recovered in there but it benefited the investigation which has led to charges here today.”

“There is certainly a chain of events that unfolded between the home invasion itself, the abduction of Mr. Ali and where he ended up,” Bereziuk added.

Investigators are still hunting two outstanding suspects wanted in connection with kidnapping and murder.

Anyone with information that could assist police with the investigation into this crime is asked to call Det. Lisa Chambers at 905-546-4843 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
