Her mom supports the theory he’s living off the land
The heartbroken parents of murdered YouTuber Gabby Petito are begging suspect Brian Laundrie to turn himself in
The couple — who appeared Tuesday on Dr. Phil — lambasted Laundrie as a “coward” and claimed he’s living off the grid as he avoids a massive nationwide manhunt.
Laundrie, 23, is the sole person of interest in the 22-year-old Long Islander’s disappearance and murder. Petito was found dead in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Sept. 19 after being reported missing on Sept. 11.
“He’s a coward,” her father, Joe Petito, said in a preview clip of the show.
Her mom, Nichole Schmidt, supports the theory he’s living off the land: “I believe he bragged about that stuff, that he was good at that stuff.”
Petito’s stepfather, Jim Schmidt, said: “Turn yourself in. You’re only making it worse. For us and for himself. Let us have some closure.”
The family also blasted Laundrie’s parents for their suspected involvement in his run from justice. His folks had claimed he went for a hike and then didn’t return but they failed to tell cops for three days.
“One of the texts was ‘I’m going to call the police, so let me know.’ No response. A normal parent, when you text someone that they’re going to call the cops because you can’t find your child, they would reply,” Joe Petito said.
“We thought they were both missing at that point in time when we were calling them.”
Schmidt added: “We didn’t know the van was in Florida when we contacted (them). I was worried about both of them.”
Meanwhile, Laundrie’s sister says she doesn’t know if her parents helped her brother evade cops.
Cassie Laundrie addressed protesters outside her Florida home and said she was frustrated by the case.
“We are just as upset, frustrated and heartbroken as everyone else,” she said, according to video of the conversation obtained by TMZ.
And the murder, manhunt and disappearances have divided the Laundrie family.
So did mom and dad help baby brother get away? “I don’t know,” she said.
