An Alberta doctor has been charged with historic sexual assaults that allegedly took place in York Region in the late 1980s, according to police.
York Regional Police said an investigation began in January when a male victim came forward to say that he had been sexually assaulted as a young child in 1988 and 1989.
Police said a second alleged victim was identified during their investigation.
“The accused was known to work for volunteer organizations with children in York Region in the ’80s. Since 2007, the accused has been residing in Medicine Hat, Alta., and has been working as a family doctor.”
Dr. Ian Gebhardt, 59, faces two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference of a person under 14.
