Woman killed in two-vehicle crash on Gardiner; other driver fled

A 58-year-old woman died in a collision that left the vehicle she was travelling in flipped over on the Gardiner Expressway.

The driver of the other vehicle — an Audi R8 — fled on foot after the crash on the eastbound lanes of the Gardiner, near Islington Ave., at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to Toronto Police.

The Audi rear-ended a grey Nissan, sending it into a median where it eventually came to a stop, flipping over on its roof.

The dead woman was a passenger in the Nissan that flipped over. Police said she was trapped but eventually removed with vital signs.

First responders conducted an emergency run to hospital where she later died.

Police said a 61-year-old man in the Nissan was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.

The high-end Audi R8 stopped on a shoulder of the expressway with what appeared to be considerable damage to its front end.

Police appealed to people — including motorists who stopped to help or took video of the scene — to come forward if they have any information about the crash.
