Man sought in suspected murder of missing Markham couple

A Canada-wide warrant remains in effect for a man York Regional Police believe is connected to the murder of a Markham couple.

Homicide detectives are on the hunt for 35-year-old Phuong Tan Nguyen.

He is wanted in connection to the disappearance and suspected murder of Quoc Tran, 37, and Kristy Nguyen, 25, who were last seen Sept. 18 around 5:30 p.m. at 111 Zenway Blvd., a commercial plaza near Hwys. 27 and 7 in Vaughan.

Although their bodies have not yet been located, police believe the pair were slain.

Police could not confirm whether there is any connection between the suspect and the female victim as they have the same last name.

Nguyen is wanted on two counts of first-degree murder.

Police consider him armed and dangerous and are cautioning anyone to avoid approaching him but instead to call 911.

Investigators have released a picture of the man who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 180 pounds.

Photos of a truck cops believe is connected to the case have also been released.

Officers could not confirm whether the driver is an accessory, but did tell the Toronto Sun he is considered a “person of interest.”

Anyone who remembers seeing the vehicle or its driver on Sept. 18 around 11:30 p.m. at the commercial plaza is asked to contact the homicide and missing person unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
