A fire on the roof of Pacific Mall in Markham has been extinguished.

Markham Fire (MFES) tweeted firefighters responded after getting a call about the blaze at around 10 a.m. Monday.

“Our crews could see heavy black smoke while responding,” said the tweet.

“Crews have accessed the roof and extinguished the fire. Efforts continue to ensure there is no additional extension and ventilation of smoke is taking place. Fire cause is being investigated.”

CityNews reported the fire happened in a restaurant kitchen’s HVAC unit on the roof and that smoke also reached the mall’s retail area.

No injuries were reported, and the mall was closed Monday.
