A resident of a Portland apartment complex is being hailed a hero after subduing and knocking out an active gunman.
John Dickson managed to sneak up behind neighbor Luke Stolarzyk, 32, beat him unconscious and, with the help of another neighbor, grab his AR-15 and hogtie him according to The Oregonian/Oregonlive.com who cited court records.
“He knocked the guy out,” neighbour Misty Garrett told the Portland Tribune.
“It took a long time for the police to show up here. During that time, another guy joined in trying to tie him up and beat him up.”
Miraculously, Stolarzyk, who managed to fire off 29 shots at cars and buildings, was the only person injured in the June 29 incident at Stephens Creek Crossing and was taken to hospital.
Apparently, the “visibly drunk” gunman had been angered by an argument with another neighbour over his barking dog around 1:15 a.m.
Earlier Dickson had confronted Stolarzyk during the disagreement when he wasn’t armed and everyone dispersed but then he returned with the AR-15.
Stolarzyk, who was released from the hospital Monday, faces various charges including attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon according to Fox 12.
