Toronto, York cops seize guns, drugs in hold-up investigation

Cops in Toronto and York Region seized several firearms in connection with two 2020 robberies in their regions.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020 at 2:45 p.m., two male suspects wearing ski masks entered a bank at 3636 Steeles Ave. E. in Markham.

The pair unsuccessfully tried to break in through locked doors before fleeing in a dark coloured vehicle.

A short time later, the same suspects entered a mobile phone store at 7601 Weston Rd. with a handgun and stole a quantity of phones.

There were no injuries.

The suspects were identified and search warrants were executed at two residents in Mississauga.

During the searches, police located a 9mm loaded Glock handgun, two loaded magazines, a semi-automatic shotgun, a semi-automatic assault rifle, an airsoft rifle, a Taser, one ounce of crack cocaine, one pound of marijuana and approximately $2,000 in Canadian currency.

Two additional people at the residence with the firearms were also charged.

One of the suspects has been charged in two other robberies — one on January 15, 2021 in Etobicoke and another the next day in Scarborough.

Israel Braithwaite, 20, of Mississauga faces four counts of robbery with a firearm

Jaidyn Young, 21, of Mississauga faces robbery, firearms and drug trafficking charges.

Eli Christian, 54, and George Brown, 56, both of Mississauga face firearms charges.
