GTA COVID-19 hot spots cool

The three former COVID-19 hot spots of Toronto, Peel and York had a combined 45 out of the 210 new cases reported Thursday across the province.

Waterloo now records the highest number of daily cases — 52 on Thursday — as it battles the delta variant.

Much of the province reported fewer than 10 cases.

The seven-day daily average for new COVID-19 cases was 206, down from a high this year of 4,370 on April 17.

The last time the seven-day daily average was that low was Sept. 14 when it was 209.

The testing positivity rate fell to 0.8%.

Four deaths were added to bring the pandemic’s grim toll to 9,228 lives lost.

There were 215 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, including three transfers from Manitoba, and 145 on ventilators.
