York Regional Police were called to a clothing store at Vaughan Mills Shopping Mall on Saturday for reports of a man carrying a gun.

Shoppers were evacuated from the area before two suspects were arrested and searched.

Police said they seized one handgun. After search warrants were executed for the residences of both suspects, police found another weapon as well as ammunition.

Julius Olatayo Asha, 19, and Kimanie Khaleed James Turner, 19 — both of Vaughan — face weapons charges.


Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a knife-wielding man who chased a woman Sunday in the Yonge St.-Sheppard Ave. area.

A 37-year-old woman walking on Doris Ave. around 10.30 a.m. was pursued by a man she had seen pull a knife out of his trousers.

The woman ran and was able to flag down a passing car for help. The man was last seen walking toward Forrest Laneway.

Surveillance video shows the suspect is black, 25-30 years old, with short dark hair. He was wearing dark pants with a long tear on the right leg, a black T-shirt and a dark hooded sweater.


Police are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted in The West Mall-Evans Ave. area.

A woman walking in that area around midnight on July 3 was approached and sexually assaulted by two strangers.

Both men are described as black, 6-foot, and 35-50 years old. One suspect has short black hair and wore a dark face mask, a red shirt, and a black jacket. The other wore dark clothing.
