Toronto Police say the deadly shooting happened on Antrim Cr., near Kennedy Rd. and Hwy. 401.

Officers responded to reports that someone had been shot around 6 p.m. and found the critically wounded teen at the scene.

Emergency personnel performed CPR and rushed Francis to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Toronto Police Insp. Katherine Stephenson told reporters Saturday night that a black SUV was involved.

“We don’t know how many occupants were in the vehicle. We do believe that there were gunshots fired from the vehicle.”

Stephenson said at the time of the shooting, Francis was standing outside with some friends.

“There are numerous cameras in this area,” said Stephenson. “We do believe that the victim, after the shooting, had fled a short distance where he collapsed near a basketball court.”

She said investigators hope that video retrieved from near the basketball court and neighbouring buildings will help them piece together what happened.
