A 31-year veteran Toronto police officer has been killed while responding to a call at Toronto City Hall, police have confirmed.
Constable Jeffrey Northrup, a plainclothes officer with 52 Division, died after being run down by a suspect in a vehicle in the city hall underground parking garage, Police Chief James Ramer confirmed.
His partner was also injured and transported to hospital with minor injuries, he said.
The case is being handled by the TPS Homicide squad.
Both Northrup and his partner had been dispatched to a priority call in the garage, described by Ramer as a robbery that was later upgraded to a stabbing.
