Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit continues to investigate after a man suffered life-threatening injuries following an interaction with police in Brampton on Thursday afternoon.
Peel Regional Police officers responded after gunshots were heard inside a residential building in the area of Charolais Blvd. and McMurchy Ave. S. around 4:10 p.m.
“This is a custody injury case. The male is in hospital and is in stable condition as of this writing.” SIU spokesperson Loida Pedro said in an email Friday morning. “We do not have additional information to share for now.”
There was a large police presence at the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital by paramedics.
The SIU investigates circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
