As part of an appeal for the public’s help in a sudden-death investigation, investigators have released the identity of a man who died earlier this month after being found on a road in the city’s east end.
Police now believe the man was hit by a vehicle and the incident is the city’s 11th traffic fatality of the year.
Toronto Police were called to the area of Victoria Park Ave. and Finch Ave. E. for a man found by a passerby in the southwest corner of the intersection just after the noon-hour on June 13.
The man, who has since been identified as Candelario Alfredo Marquez, 69, of Scarborough, was conscious at the time but unable to communicate.
Paramedics transported Marquez to hospital with unknown injuries and he was pronounced dead a short while later.
Police say Marquez was known to frequent the area where he was found.
Information was received by police that several people were on the eastbound Finch Ave. E. TTC bus (route No. 39) and may have seen the man shortly before 12:15 p.m.
Marquez was wearing cut-off blue denim shorts, a striped blue T-shirt under a blue long-sleeve button-up shirt, and dark-coloured sandals. He was carrying a brown backpack.
