Toronto police say they have reason to believe the body of a missing man presumed murdered could be in a landfill in Elgin County, near London, Ont.
In a release Tuesday, police said they’ve obtained a search warrant for the Green Lane Landfill site in Southwold in connection to the disappearance of 57-year-old Nathaniel Brettell.
Police say the excavation at the landfill will start on Monday, July 5 and could take months to complete.
Brettell was reported missing on Jan. 21, 2021. When police initially attended a residence in the Royal York Boulevard and Lawrence Avenue West area on Feb. 1, to look for him, they spotted blood. A subsequent search at the location resulted in the arrest of a man for allegedly attacking police officers.
Ahmed Al Farkh, 33, of Toronto was arrested at the scene for the alleged attack on two officers who suffered minor injuries.
on May 12, police charged Al Farkh with second-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of Brettell.
“Following a development in the investigation, officers also have reason to believe Nathaniel’s body could be at the landfill site,” police said Tuesday.
