York police searching for suspect after several hate-related incidents in Markham

York Regional Police are looking for a suspect after several hate-related incidents in Markham and Richmond Hill.

Between June 2 and 22, police received reports of several incidents including road rage, assault, criminal harassment, mischief and uttering threats towards numerous victims.

Police have linked these incidents to the same suspect and say some of the incidents may be hate motivated and involved offensive comments on race and ethnicity.

Joseph Denis Lukacsi, 50, of no fixed address is five-foot-ten, 170 lbs., with grey hair, a beard, a blue flame tattoo on his left forearm.

He wears dark coloured clothing, a dark coloured baseball hat and drives a black, two-door Kia Forte.

Police have issued a warrant for his arrest.

“York Regional Police does not tolerate hate crime in any form. Those who victimize individuals based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or mental or physical disability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” police said in a release.
