Accused operated a company that allegedly submitted fictitious Records of Employment and medical notes
A 37-year-old Markham woman faces charges after police alleged the Canadian government was defrauded of over $1 million in employment insurance benefits.
The RCMP said the woman operated a company called C2S2 Consulting Inc. — located on Finch Ave. E., near Midland Ave., in Scarborough.
“The investigation began after the RCMP received information from Service Canada about a company suspected of submitting fictitious Records of Employment (ROE) and medical notes, leading to EI benefits being claimed unlawfully,” Staff-Sgt. Ken Derakhshan said in a statement released Wednesday.
As a result of the investigation, Xueting Xu — also known as Cici Tsui — is charged with two counts of fraud over $5000.
“Xueting Xu is alleged to have submitted fraudulent documentation to Service Canada for EI benefits on behalf of hundreds of clients,” Derakhshan said.
Xu is scheduled to appear in Scarborough court on Aug. 4.
