Toronto police to announce record drug bust

Netting over a metric ton of drugs and 20 arrests, a six-month joint operation has netted the largest drug seizure in Toronto history.

Details will be released later this morning regarding Project Birsa, an operation involving a number of law enforcement agencies across Canada.

A press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with Toronto Police Chief James Ramer, OPP Chief Superintendent Paul Mackey, York Police Chief James MacSween, and the CBSA’s David Glos.

Early details on the bust are scarce, but a TPS press release states over 1,000 kg. of illegal drugs were seized and 20 people — including one young person — were arrested.
