In the great underworld bloodletting of 2017-2020 gangsters targeted low-hanging fruit.

Friends, relatives and associates of mobsters.

Giorgio Barresi may have been one of them. The Stoney Creek father — who was not involved in criminal activities — was shot to death in the driveway of his home on March 2, 2020.

His wife and children were inside at the time of the shooting that had all the earmarks of an underworld hit.

Now, with Father’s Day approaching, Hamilton Police are offering a $50,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the real estate agent’s killers.

A month after the shocking murder, Barresi’s wife Sonia Horta-Barresi, made a video appeal.

“For those of you who are lucky enough to have known my husband George, you knew he had a contagious smile and a charismatic personality that would light up a room,” she said.

“He loved talking to people and he was a really great realtor, but the thing he loved and valued most was his family. Our family is forever broken and a piece of our hearts is gone.”

But the case is still unsolved.

Cops say the suspects arrived in a light-coloured sedan and parked at the end of his street, then waited for Giorgio to return home.

Barresi returned to his Portofino Place home in Stoney Creek on March 2 at about 10:45 p.m. and was confronted in his driveway by his killer.

The father of three was shot several times and died of his wounds.

The triggerman then calmly walked back to the waiting getaway car.

The suspects fled in the sedan to a nearby highway quickly fleeing the area before police arrived.

In a release on Wednesday, police said: “The murder of Giorgio was planned. It is believed that the suspects were aware of his habits and routines which afforded the opportunity to confront Giorgio at his residence that night.

“Investigators believe that the actions of these suspects indicate that there are people within our community who know what happened to Giorgio that night and the events that led up to his murder.”
