The gunman got clipped in Mexico.

Likewise another alleged participant.

The planner is in the ether.

And the only man ever arrested and charged with the underworld murders of mob scion Angelo Musitano and innocent bystander Mila Barberi walked out of a Hamilton court on Tuesday a free man.

First-degree murder charges against former Mohawk College student Jabril Hassan Abdalla, 29, were dropped and instead he pleaded guilty to participating in a criminal organization.

With dead time and the COVID pandemic added in, Ontario Superior Court Justice David Parayeski sentenced Abdalla to time served with no probation and a $500 fine.

Barberi was an innocent bystander murdered in Vaughan on March 14, 2017.

The target had been her gangland-connected boyfriend.

Angelo Musitano, 39, was ambushed while sitting in his truck in his Waterdown driveway.

The murders kicked off a bloody and unprecedented underworld tit-for-tat blood-letting that by its conclusion last summer with the daytime rubout of mob boss Pat Musitano in a Burlington strip mall had claimed at least 12 lives.

Courtroom 208 at the John Sopinka Courthouse was filled with just 20 people, members of Barberi’s close-knit clan and Abdalla’s supportive family.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

According to the facts of the case, Abdalla — looking to make more cash — began associating with members of Hamilton’s criminal milieu.

Both the Crown and defence made clear that Abdalla was nothing more than a patsy or gopher and had no idea of the death plot percolating. Nor was he at the scene of Barberi or Musitano’s murders.

Cops have yet to pin down who orchestrated the murders but said the Hamilton were “bit players”.

In victim impact statements, Barberi’s devastated family spoke of their horrendous loss.

“Our lives have been destroyed forever,” Mila’s mom Elvira told Abdella.

“She was at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.”

Her mother and father, Alessio, spoke of Mila’s love of animals and nature and her future dreams.

Abdalla, the family said, took her away from them and pulverized those dreams.

And Elvira warned Abdella that “karma” would catch up to him.

There was no victim impact statement from the Musitano family who wished to maintain their privacy.

Prior to being arrested in September 2018, Abdella had never been in trouble with the police. He became associated with the underworld through his friendship with Daniel Tomasetti, believed to be hiding in Mexico.

Cops say that in both slayings, Hamilton hitman Michael Cudmore pulled the trigger. He was found murdered outside Cancun in June 2020. Another man suspected of being involved in the plot, Daniel Ranieri, was found murdered in Mexico in 2018.

In addressing the Barberi family, Abdella was remorseful.

“I prayed that this day would arrive. I am truly sorry for their loss and I feel for his [Musitano] family too,” he said, his voice breaking.

“And I’m sorry for my own family.

“I’m not a murderer. I never planned to hurt anyone.”

And then he told the judge: “You will never see me again.”
