A fire broke out at a house in Ajax on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were on scene at the Beachview St. residential unit to battle the blaze.

It was not immediately known if anyone was in the house at the time of the fire, or if there were any injuries.

The house, located at the end of the street, is said to have been under construction for two years.

The owner, reached at the scene on Tuesday, did not give a name, only saying: “I have no words.”

Ajax firefighters responded to the scene quickly and soaked the home next door to prevent the flames from spreading.

“I think they managed to save our house, that’s for sure,” said Chris Gezwski, who lives in the house next to the one that caught fire. “They were pretty quick to respond. I would say five more minutes and our house would be on fire.”

Added Gezwski: “We went to the backyard on the deck just to check, I heard some noise. Saw smoke coming out. I thought maybe they’re cleaning up or dusting or something, and then I went to the front of the house and I saw the flames already. It was pretty quick. Didn’t take long to burn the whole house down.”
