Vaccine passports contentious issue for the unvaccinated

A New Hampshire high school used black and red Sharpies on prom night to mark students vaccinated or unvaccinated.

The colour-coded system allowed Exeter High School to maintain a contact tracing system, which, although a tad primitive, did permit anyone who wanted to — vaccinated or unvaccinated — to attend prom.

According to the school principal Mike Monahan, student and teacher feedback has been positive.

“We hope the community will understand that while no model is perfect, this model let the students enjoy a close to normal and highly desired experience to cap off their senior year,” he told NBC Boston.

“That’s the memory we want to leave them with.”

Criticism of the Sharpie markings came from Republican State Representative Melissa Litchfield, who claims she posted about it on social media and has been contacted by more than a dozen upset parents.

She claimed she’s involved because the parents are afraid to speak up about this.

According to the New York Post, Litchfield posted on Facebook:

“If the vaccination is effective, and at this point anyone within the state can have access to it (those vulnerable or not), what does it matter if the rest of the population is vaccinated? Aren’t those who have had the vaccine protected?”

One parent at the school complained that the unvaccinated young adults were being treated like prisoners in Nazi Germany.

In their coverage, the Post also explained how prom worked at Long Island’s Port Washington High School, which 500 seniors attended.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Kids there who showed proof of vaccination did not need to wear a face mask; the unvaccinated required a face mask. The school is following all New York State and federal health guidelines.

Considering that the U.S. led the world at one point in COVID-19 deaths, recovering only after mass vaccinations began, singling out the unvaccinated may well become common practice for the protection of others.

Regardless of parental protests, if there is an outbreak of COVID-19 following the prom at Exeter high school, contact tracing will be easily done thanks to the black and red marks, and those at risk can be quickly isolated to prevent further transmission.
