Hamilton police say a man in his 50s has been killed in the city’s latest homicide.

Officers and paramedics arrived at 737 Barton St. E. where an unconscious male was found on the second floor.

He showed signs of blunt force trauma and was transported to Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

According to Det. Jim Callender of the Major Crime Unit, there were multiple calls made to 911 from other tenants within the residence.

“There was a small disturbance, a verbal type of altercation a couple tenants had heard,” said Callender.

Residents found the victim, after that altercation subsided, and alerted police.

There was an autopsy scheduled Monday to determine what was used to cause the injuries to the deceased but there are reports from neighbours who say the weapon used was a hammer.

According to Callender, there are no suspects at this time and police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“We are working with other tenants in the building for more information,” said Callender. “We are receiving some cooperation (but) we are finding some hurdles.”

The investigation continues, as cops canvass the area for surveillance camera footage, or witnesses who may have seen or heard anything.
