Child critically hurt after being struck by vehicle in Markham: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police say a child is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near Hwy. 407 in Markham on Thursday.

Emergency services responded to a call about a child struck on Warden Ave. shortly after 4 p.m.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt described the child as a “pre-teen.”

The child was crossing the Hwy. 407 on-ramp from the northbound lanes of Warden Ave. eastbound when a vehicle struck.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police, Schmidt said.

The ramp was closed due to the police investigation.
